Four Forty is back, baby.
The park's been closed for winter track work and it reopens this weekend. We're doing an opening day crew ride to christen the fresh dirt.
What to expect
We'll start with the newer flow trails (Grade 2-3) to warm up, then work our way into the steeper stuff if the group's keen. The park crew have reportedly rebuilt sections of Tama Tū and added a new jump line off the main ridge, so there'll be plenty to explore.
Ride pace
Social. Nobody gets left behind. We'll regroup at trail junctions and wait at the bottom of each run. If you're new to Four Forty or MTB in general, this is a great first ride with the group.
What to bring
- Full-face helmet recommended for the downhill trails (half-shell minimum)
- Gloves, knee pads if you have them
- Spare tube, pump, multi-tool
- 1.5L water minimum, there's no water on-site
- Snacks for the car park hangs afterwards
Shuttle or pedal?
The park runs a shuttle service ($10/session, pay on-site). We'll do a mix of shuttle laps and pedal-up runs depending on energy levels. E-bikes welcome.
Afterwards
Post-ride beers and burgers at the car park. BYO or there's usually a food truck on opening weekends. This is as much a social as it is a ride.
Cost
Park entry is free. Shuttle is optional ($10).
